The Story of Woodstock, is an accurate historical account of one of Irelands Grand Houses and spectacularly restored gardens set in Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny. This book is a long overdue work that delves for the first time into the fascinating history of the Tighe family, and particularly of their legacy at Woodstock, their fortunes and the fates of those who lived there from 1737 to 1912.

The Story of Woodstock is the only factual account about the Tighes;

            • Their Descendants
            • Their Marriage Alliances
            • Their Political and Scholarly involvements.

Along the way meet a wide variety of characters -

      • The Illegitimate offspring of King Charles 11
      • The controversial ‘Ladies of Llangollen’ who ‘eloped’ from Woodstock
      • An unlikely opponent of the Act of Union
      • The man who made Buckingham Palace fit for a Queen
      • The Gentlewoman at whose funeral a Bishop cried

And... above all, the people of Inistioge, with whose history the estate has been so closely bound up for over 400 years.

The account also covers the tragic events of the early 1900’s, including the violent death in a London robbery of the last member of the Tighe family to live at Woodstock, and the burning of the house itself after the Irish War of Independence in 1922

FAMILY

It ends with an amazing story of how Tighe family interests maintained a presence throughout the 20th.century, that led to partnership with Kilkenny County Council in the Restoration of Woodstock Gardens during the early years of the 21st century, creating what is now one of Ireland's most historical and delightful locations.
